The Saints Monarchs ice hockey club

The Finals reflected the play of our three teams this season.

The Non-Contacts ended the season tied on points for first place with the Marauders, but behind on percentage. They pushed the series to the limit, but eventually lost. However, they received the 'Runners-up' silver medals and are set on pursuing the gold next year. The Reserves were knocked out in the quarter-finals, a disappointment for them after ending up in first place in the regular season; but the competition was very close and the title could have gone to any of the top four teams on the day. The Tigers defeated the Braves in the quarters, but succumbed to the Rangers in the semis, the Rangers going on to surprise and upset the Hawks in the Grand Final.

Welcome to the Saints Monarchs Ice Hockey Club Website

The Saints Monarchs IHC has one of the longest histories and most successful records in the Ice Hockey Victory Association; for simplicity's sake the Club usually refers to itself as 'The Saints'.

The Club operates at the Seniors level and is represented by the Saints Reserves and Non-Contact teams and the Tigers, our Premier A team, which is an alliance of players from the Saints and the Sharks Clubs. In 2008, the Tigers made it to the Grand Final; our goal for 2009 is to win the Premier A Championship.

The Saints has a dedicated Management Committee that meets regularly; its brief is to run hockey affairs efficiently and to seek financial support for the Club from a range of sponsors. Above all, our goal is to make playing ice hockey an enjoyable and satisfying experience for our players.

Games are currently held at the Olympic Ice Hockey Rink in Oakleigh South, but in 2010 a new ice hockey stadium in the docklands precinct will become the site for Senior Ice Hockey in Melbourne (see 'News and Events' for more details).

Write your own blurb for the player profile pages

There will soon be a new page on our website--Player profiles. We need you to write a 2-3 paragraph blurb about yourself to go with your photo on the profile page. Please send along your profile text to Bernard or Natasha so that we can launch the pages soon. You'll then have an investment in the Club's website and you can update or change your profile as often as you want by sending a substitute text to us. David Paul, a professional photographer, tooks photos of the Reserves this week and will soon be at Tiger and Non-Contact games to get more pictures.

La Porchetta—our new sponsor for 2009

The Oakleigh South and Caulfield 'La Porchetta' restaurants have agreed to become sponsors of the Club this season. Boris, the owner, has supported the Club in the past, but this year will be offering special deals to help raise funds in support of the Saints. We'd like to reciprocate by encouraging our members to support the restaurant, to eat there when possible and have a good time! (PS—the pizza is good, but the garlic prawns are great!)

Periodic raffles of $50.00 La Porchetta dinner vouchers

La Porchetta has given the Saints some $50.00 dinner vouchers that we are going to raffle off periodically. If you'd like to buy a ticket for the raffle, they are $3 each or 2 for $5. They'll be sold by the team managers. The winner of the first draw is Ken Wallace. Tolya sold Ken the ticket. Enjoy!!.
